Tornados, Nitros in Action; Falcons Idle

The Hoover High School varsity boys’ water polo team recently lost a nonleague rematch at Pasadena Polytechnic, 15-8, on Wednesday, Aug. 30, as Davo Harutnunyan led the Tornados with four goals, one block and two steals.
Menua Iskandaryan collected two goals, one block and one steal, Rocco Boyadjian posted two goals and Grickore Danelyan registered 10 saves. David Tarakhchyan tallied two steals and one block, Vahe Ovasapyan recorded one assist and one steal, and Raffi Davtyan produced a pair of steals. Tiko Mkrtumyan and Antonyos Salib each had one assist, while Andrew Shahvosian logged one block.
Hoover previously competed in the Polytechnic Invitational last weekend, finishing the tournament with an 0-4 record.
The Tornados were edged in their tournament finale by South Pasadena, 7-6, on Saturday, Aug. 27. Ovasapyan led with three goals, while Davtyan produced two goals, four steals and one block. Harutnunyan collected one goal and two steals, Tarakhchyan had six steals and two blocks, and Alex Orujian tallied four steals. Haik Aghadjanian recorded one steal, while Danelyan registered 13 saves.
Hoover previously ended pool play after losing to tournament host Polytechnic, 13-4, earlier on Saturday. Harutnunyan led with two goals, one block and two steals, Nico Boyadjian scored once and Rocco Boyadjian finished with one goal and one steal. Tarakhchyan collected a pair of steals and one block, Orujian produced two steals, Ovasapyan, Andre Ambarchyan and Abas Bazinyan each had one steal, and Danelyan logged 10 saves.
The Tornados were defeated by La Cañada, 10-9, in the second tournament game on Friday, Aug. 26, as Harutnunyan collected two goals, four assists, one block and one steal. Mkrtumyan posted two goals, one assist and one steal, while Iskandaryan tallied two goals and one assist. Rocco Boyadjian notched one goal and one steal, while Arthur Khachikian and Davtyan each recorded one goal. Tarakhchyan finished with two blocks and one steal, Bazinyan had one steal and Danelyan produced 14 saves.
Hoover opened the tournament by falling to St. Francis High of La Cañada, 15-8, on Friday. Harutnunyan registered three goals and one steal, while Rocco Boyadjian scored three goals. Tarakhchyan tallied one goal and three steals, Davtyan scored once, Danelyan collected 13 saves and four steals, and Orujian, Iskandaryan, Khachikian, Aghadjanian and Ovasapyan each had one steal.
The Tornados (1-6 overall) will visit South Pasadena for a nonleague rematch on Tuesday, Sept. 6, at 3:30 p.m.

GLENDALE

The Nitros recently lost a nonleague game at San Marino, 16-12, on Tuesday, Aug. 30.
Junior Artin Ghazaryan led the team with five goals, sophomore Robert Lazaryan added two goals, and senior Gregory Carrillo collected one goal and one assist. Meanwhile, senior Arthur Ter-Matevosyan, junior David Zakaryan, junior Andrew Klujian and sophomore August Kalaba each scored once goal.
Glendale previously won its regular season opener at Upland, 8-7, on Thursday, Aug. 25. Ghazaryan led with three goals and two blocks while winning the sprint once. Carrillo collected two goals, one steal and one block while winning the sprint twice. Senior Andrew Azizian tallied one goal, one steal and one assist, while Zakaryan and Lazaryan each scored one goal. Junior Arno Ghazaryan produced three steals and one block, Ter-Matevosyan recorded two steals and one block, and Kalaba posted two blocks.
The Nitros (1-1 overall) will continue to compete in the two-day Corona Tournament on Saturday, Sept. 3, before hosting Fullerton on Monday, Sept. 5

CRESCENTA VALLEY

The Falcons have not begun their season yet but will battle San Marino in their opener at Glendale High School on Wednesday, Sept. 7, at 6:15 p.m.
