The YMCA of Glendale last weekend invited local officials to help unearth a time capsule buried outside of the historic main building in 1997.
The vessel contained a plethora of documentation of Glendale civic life from the time as well as a variety of pop culture talismans that took attendees back to the late 1990s. The event, which also signaled the YMCA of Glendale’s centennial, included a proclamation of support from state Sen. Anthony Portantino and a family fun day in the organization’s parking lot.

Included inside the capsule were McDonald’s Happy Meal toys and other paraphernalia for the film “Space Jam,” several issues of the Glendale News-Press, records and photos from various public organizations and a bottle of port wine gifted by then-Mayor Sheldon Baker to the 2022 mayor, Ardy Kassakhian.
