PTA, League of Women Voters to Hold GUSD Candidate Forum

First published in the April 23 print issue of the Glendale News Press.

Glendale Council PTA and League of Women Voters of Greater Los Angeles will be hosting a candidate forum for the Glendale Unified School Board candidates in Areas B and C.
The forum will take place on Wednesday, May 18, at 7 p.m., and will be moderated by Rita Zwern of the League of Women Voters.
Candidates Lerna Amiryans and Ingrid Gunnell, from Area B, and Kathleen Cross and Armina Gharpetian, from Area C, have agreed to attend the forum. Since only one candidate is running in Area D, that area will not participate in the forum.
While the forum will be held in the GUSD Board Room, the event will not be open to the public. Instead, the public is invited to view a livestream of the forum by registering at gusd.net/May18. Suggested questions for the candidates may be submitted by midnight on May 1 to Tinyurl.com/y3eh2bx5.
The PTA’s mission is to empower families and communities to advocate for all children. Since the decisions of elected officials significantly affect the well-being of children and youth, it is a PTA responsibility to disseminate as much factual, objective information as possible during election campaigns to help voters make informed choices. Candidate forums offer one way to provide such information in a nonpartisan, impartial, educational environment.
The League of Women Voters, a nonpartisan political organization, encourages informed and active participation in government, works to increase understanding of major public policy issues and influences public policy through education and advocacy.
