Lorraine Hausmann-Ellis

LORRAINE HAUSMANN-ELLIS, 86, of Pasadena, California, passed away peacefully, February 4, 2022.

Lorraine was born Audrey Lorraine Hausmann in Alaska on July 9, 1935. She was married to Harlan Ellis, now deceased.

Lorraine’s maternal grandparents immigrated to Alaska from Norway during the Gold rush. Her grandfather, Andy Anderson, navigated the Chilkoot Trail during 1898 and settled in Manley Hot Springs, Alaska to mine gold. With his wife, Tora G. Anderson, they had eight children, the first four born in Norway and the last four in Manley Springs. The third oldest was Oddny, Lorraine’s mother, who later married Earle Hausmann. Their only child was Lorraine. Lorraine’s father Earle Hausmann was the owner of the Piggly Wiggly grocery store in Fairbanks and was very active in Alaska Statehood efforts. Lorraine’s mother Oddny designed hats during her career, following in the footsteps of her mother Tora, who was a tailor, seamstress and designer in Seattle, Washington. Tora later moved to California to be with Lorraine.

As an only child, Lorraine maintained relationships with many of her cousins who lived in many parts of the United States including Alaska, Florida, Iowa, Nevada, and Washington.

Lorraine had a long and fulfilling career as an elementary school teacher in Glendale, California. She enriched the lives of her students so they in turn could have productive and rewarding careers and lives of their own. Many of her students maintained contact with her well into their adult lives treasuring her caring personality and reassuring and loving presence.

Lorraine and Harlan were lifelong USC Trojan supporters attending the many academic and sporting events over their lifetimes. Lorraine specifically had a special place in her heart for the USC Trojan Marching Band.
