Rockhaven Community Meeting Scheduled for July 10

Glendale officials are inviting residents to a community meeting about proposed work at the historic Rockhaven site, including plans to rehabilitate the Pines Cottage as a museum and improve accessibility.

The meeting is scheduled for Wednesday, July 10, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Montrose Public Library.

City staff and consultants will present the proposals. The project team includes landscape architecture firm SWA, preservation architects Architectural Resource Group and museum consultant M. Goodwin Museum Planning.

A question-and-answer session will follow the presentations.

The former Rockhaven Sanitarium, listed in the National Register of Historic Places, opened in 1923 as a mental health facility for women. It features residential-scale cottages set in gardens, offering an alternative to large institutions of the time. The city-owned property closed in 2001.

The Montrose Public Library is located at 2465 Honolulu Ave.

For more information, contact the city at (818) 937-8155 or email JPlatt@GlendaleCA.gov.
