Fitness Guru Pumps Up Jefferson Community

Fitness celebrity Chris Powell from ABC’s “Extreme Weight Loss” visited Thomas Jefferson Elementary School on Wednesday to introduce Move One Million to the school’s teachers, students and parents.
The mission of Move One Million is to improve physical, mental and social health worldwide by standardizing movement and mindfulness.
Created by Powell in 2020, Move One Million has been successfully implemented in many schools.
“Teachers using Move One Million in their classrooms have reported students appearing happier and healthier, improved attention spans, and improved classroom behavior,” the Glendale Unified School District said.
The free online program consists of a two-and-a-half-minute routine that everyone, regardless of age or ability, can do, followed by a two-minute mindfulness exercise. The routine is broadcast daily and available via email or the free M1M app, giving everyone the access to move daily, reduce stress and feel connected with others.
The Jefferson Elementary Parent Teacher Association was able to put the event on with a $1,250 grant awarded from the National PTA for the PTA Healthy Minds program. Of the approximately 20,000 local PTAs nationwide, only 50 were selected to receive a Healthy Minds grant sponsored by the New York Life Foundation.
Thomas Jefferson Principal Armineh Alexan expressed her appreciation for the PTA’s commitment to health.
“We are thrilled that our PTA was awarded this grant money and excited that it has enabled us to bring Mr. Powell to our school to talk to our teachers and students about simple and meaningful steps they can take towards a lifetime of physical and mental well-being,” Alexan said.
