State Superintendent Visits GUSD

State Superintendent of Public Instruction Tony Thurmond visited Cerritos Elementary School in the Glendale Unified School District recently to recognize the important contributions made by classified school employees in the district and around the state.
Thurmond met with GUSD Superintendent Vivian Ekchian, Cerritos Elementary Principal Diana Hernandez and California School Employee Association Chapter 3 President Xavier Marchan, among others.
Thurmond also met with and highlighted the classified school employees who make sure students have healthy meals, safe campuses and supportive learning environments. He showcased the important duties performed by Cerritos Elementary classified employees, including classroom aides, office/clerical staff, custodians, yard duty leaders, Nutrition Services staff and others.
Cerritos Elementary is a computer science immersion magnet school serving nearly 500 diverse students in Glendale. Coding and computer science are embedded into the curriculum at every grade level. The school features a transitional kindergarten program and one of the district’s largest preschool programs.
