Twenty-six young women from La Cañada Flintridge, Glendale and the surrounding area will be on the runway modeling clothing from Macy’s at their 71st annual Tea and Fashion Show at 2 p.m. on Saturday, April 30, at the Hilton in Glendale.
The Glendale Chapter of National Charity League members, family and friends will be in attendance, as well as the group’s philanthropic partners Asencia, Door of Hope, Twelve Oaks, Union Station and YWCA — all of which will be honored and provided grants at the event.
The young women, or Ticktockers as they are known, began their NCL journeys in the 7th-grade, working with their mothers, called Patronesses, to support the chapter’s philanthropic partners. NCL provides experience in community service, leadership development and cultural experiences, which are the pillars of our program.
As high school juniors they participate in the long-standing annual fashion show tradition. This event teaches them to hone their presentation and public speaking skills. Most importantly, it builds confidence and celebrates teamwork. In preparation, the girls worked together to determine the theme, took lessons with a professional coach and collaborated on the event planning details.
The Glendale-area NCL was first organized in 1942 and became a chartered chapter of NCL in 1958. It works with more than 20 local philanthropies, supporting them with hands-on service.
