Holy Week is a special time for worship in the Christian faith and to remember the stories of the betrayal, death and resurrection of Jesus, La Cañada Presbyterian Church leaders say.
This year, Holy Week runs from Sunday, April 2 to Sunday, April 9. LCPC begins Holy Week celebrations on April 2 with two morning worship services and an afternoon Palm Sunday concert featuring the choir and orchestra performing “The Seven Last Words of Christ on the Cross” by César Franck.
The traditional worship service at 9 a.m. in the church’s sanctuary will include music by choir and orchestra, and the music at the 10:30 a.m. contemporary worship in the Worship Arts Center on the church’s campus will be led by the LCPC Praise Band. Both services will also celebrate Communion. The concert is at 2 p.m.
On Thursday, April 6, at 7 p.m., a Maundy Thursday worship service will be held in the Worship Arts Center. This contemporary worship service memorializes Jesus’ Last Supper with his disciples before he is betrayed, arrested and ultimately deserted by his followers. LCPC’s traditional Good Friday service will be April 7 at 7 p.m. in the sanctuary to retell the story of Jesus’ crucifixion and death on a cross. The service ends in darkness and silence.
Holy Week culminates with joyous celebrations on Easter Sunday, April 9. LCPC is offering four worship services that morning to celebrate Jesus’ Resurrection. Easter worship will be offered at 6:30 a.m. at Memorial Park at 1301 Foothill Blvd.; 8 and 9:30 a.m. traditional worship in the sanctuary; and 11 a.m. contemporary worship in the Worship Arts Center.
Family-friendly overflow will be available for the 9:30 and 11 a.m. services. Children in 6th grade and younger are invited to participate in an egg hunt after those two services. There will be separate spaces for little kids and big kids, and all of them will get a goody bag filled with candy and prizes to take home.
All services held on LCPC campus at 626 Foothill Blvd. will also be livestreamed at live.lacanadapc.org. For more information, visit lacanadapc.org.
