CV’s Reddy Blasts Home Runs in Back-to-Back Games

The Crescenta Valley High School varsity softball team defeated visiting Diamond Ranch High of Pomona, 4-1, in a Bonita Tournament game in La Verne last Saturday.
Junior Perri Derian pitched a complete game with three strikeouts, six hits and one unearned run, sophomore Mila Reddy blasted a two-run home run, senior Lily Hinkle went 3-for-4 with a double and a run, and junior Haley Krohn went 3-for-4 with a double. Junior Jaiden Sabelis recorded a hit, two runs and a walk while senior Sophia Kupperstein, sophomore Megumi Ono and sophomore Jasmine Hernandez each had a base hit.
The Falcons blanked visiting Monrovia, 8-0, in a tournament game last Friday as sophomore Carley Mulcahey pitched a five-inning complete game shutout with six strikeouts, two hits and four walks. Hinkle went 3-for-4 with a home run, two RBIs and a run, Krohn went 3-for-3 with a solo home run, and Reddy recorded a solo home run with a walk. Derian doubled with three RBIs while junior Anais Ochoa tallied a hit, a run and an RBI. Senior Hayley Neale and Ono each scored twice while sophomore Hannah Wyroski walked twice.
CVHS was previously edged by tournament host Bonita High, 5-4. Reddy went 2-for-3 with a double, a walk, an RBI and a run, Sabelis went 2-for-4 with an RBI and a run, and Ono went 2-for-3 with a double. Derian struck out five across six innings in the circle while Hinkle doubled and scored. Sophomore Alexa Johnson recorded a hit, Ochoa scored once, and Krohn produced an RBI and walked once.
The Falcons (3-1 overall) will visit Hoover High for their Pacific League opener on Thursday, March 2, at 3:30 p.m.

The Tornados lost a nonleague game at Maranatha High in Pasadena last week, 10-2.
Sophomore Evelyn Ortiz, who went 1-for-3 with an RBI at the plate, struck out nine batters over six innings while junior Paola Cano went 2-for-3 with a double, a walk, a stolen base and a run for the Torandos.
Senior captain Kiahana Montano recorded a hit, a walk, an RBI and a stolen base while freshman Sophia Hernandez tallied a hit and a run. Freshman Bellarose Luna walked once and stole a base while junior Geryl Anne Tiu, freshman Koi Abrego Castro and freshman Michelle Cline each walked once.
Hoover (0-2 overall) will visit Huntington Park for a nonleague game on Monday, Feb. 27, at 3 p.m. before hosting Crescenta Valley High in its Pacific League opener on Thursday, March 2.

GLENDALE

The Nitros lost at Duarte, 16-5, in a nonleague game on Tuesday.
Junior Phoebe Antonio and sophomore Natalie Minkler each registered a hit and an RBI while senior Desiree Guzman tallied a hit and a run. Junior Maria Guerra scored twice while seniors Sammy Maylad and Natalie Leos each scored once.
Glendale previously routed host Marshall High in Pasadena in a nonleague game, 15-1, as Minkler, who went 2-for-2 with a double and two RBIs, pitched a five-inning complete game with two strikeouts, three hits, one walk and one unearned run. Antonio went 2-for-3 with a double, three RBIs and two runs, senior Maily Navarrete went 2-for-3 with a double and three RBIs, Guzman went 2-for-2 with two runs, a stolen base and an RBI, and Maylad went 2-for-2 with an RBI and a run. Jazmin Combs recorded a hit, two walks and an RBI, junior Maria Guerra tallied a hit, three stolen bases, a walk and two runs, and sophomore Jade Marquez finished with a hit, two runs and a stolen base. Freshman Rachel Francis produced an RBI, a run and walked once, senior Natalie Leos scored three runs and stole a base, and senior Carla Luna scored twice.
The Nitros (2-1 overall) will host Maranatha High of Pasadena in a nonleague game on Tuesday, Feb. 28, at 3 p.m. before visiting Muir High in Pasadena for their Pacific League opener on Thursday, March 2.
