Nitros Blank Maranatha; Falcons Edge La Cañada

The Glendale High School varsity boys’ soccer team blanked visiting Maranatha High of Pasadena, 2-0, in its season opener on Tuesday.
Junior goalie Emil Sarkisians earned his first shutout of the season after spending all 80 minutes in the cage. Junior Kevin Anjunyan registered a goal and an assist, senior Andrey Simonyan scored once and junior Hani Ahmadie finished with an assist.
The Nitros (1-0 overall) will host Windward High of Los Angeles in a nonleague game on Tuesday, Dec. 6, at 5:15 p.m., before opening Pacific League action at Burroughs High in Burbank on Friday, Dec. 9.

CRESCENTA VALLEY

The Falcons edged host La Cañada, 3-2, in their nonleague regular-season opener on Monday. Player statistics were not reported to the Glendale News-Press.
Crescenta Valley (1-0 overall) is competing in the 29th Ralph Brandt Tournament at Burroughs High in Burbank through Saturday, Dec. 10.

HOOVER

The Tornados were shut out in a nonleague game at Sonia Sotomayor High in Los Angeles, 3-0, on Monday.
Hoover (1-1 overall) will host Notre Dame High of Sherman Oaks in a nonleague game on Monday, Dec. 5, at 5 p.m., before hosting Muir High of Pasadena in its Pacific League opener on Wednesday, Dec. 7.
