Nitros Win Big in Season Opener

The Glendale High School varsity girls’ basketball team won its season opener at Frontier High in Bakersfield, 53-38, Monday night.
Senior Jane Bassil led the team with 14 points, nine rebounds, four steals and two assists, while junior Sella Koshkerian poured in 11 points with six boards, four assists and two steals. Sophomore Pateel Krikorian registered 10 points, three rebounds and one block, Carmen Avedian finished with seven points, four boards, four assists and one steal, and sophomore Natalia Andriassian recorded six points and three rebounds. Junior Pateel Koshkerian tallied two points, six boards, three assists and three steals, while junior Kalin Zadoori collected two points and two rebounds. Sophomore Aleek Khanamerian had one point and one rebound, while junior Michelle Mirzakhanian posted one board.
The Nitros (1-0 overall) will battle Schurr High of Montebello in their Arroyo Tournament opener on Monday, Nov. 28.

HOOVER

The Tornados lost their nonleague season-opener against visiting San Marino, 48-11, Wednesday night. Freshman Michelle Cline led with four points, junior Natalie Velasquez and freshman Meylin Perez each drained a 3-pointer, and freshman Yeva Awades scored one point.
Hoover (0-1 overall) will battle Maranatha High of Pasadena in the Muir Tournament opener on Monday, Nov. 21, at 3 p.m.

CRESCENTA VALLEY

The Falcons will open their season by competing in the Muir Tournament against King/Drew High of Los Angeles on Monday, Nov. 21, at 3 p.m.
