CV’s Vallejo Kicks Game-Winning Field Goal at West Covina

The Crescenta Valley High School varsity football team collected its first win of the season by edging host West Covina, 31-28, in a nonleague game last Friday as kicker Miles Vallejo booted the game-winning field goal in the fourth quarter. He also finished a perfect 4-for-4 in PAT attempts.
Junior quarterback Jacob Deno was 22-of-25 passing for 208 yards and a touchdown with one carry for 6 yards.
Senior Shade Schaefer made 11 receptions for 93 yards while also adding 15 yards on six carries with a pair of touchdowns on the ground. Junior Bjorn Hermansen scored on an 85-yard kickoff return while adding a pair of tackles on defense. Junior Cristian Flores carried 12 times for 80 yards while making one catch for nine yards. Senior Arian Bakhshi posted five receptions for 52 yards, while junior Andranik Saryan collected six receptions for 45 yards.
Senior Zach Dunlavey tallied a four-yard carry while adding a team-high seven tackles and a sack on defense, and senior Jemerson Calix had one reception for 9 yards and three tackles on defense. Senior Michael Balian collected six tackles, senior Tyler Oliver registered five tackles, and junior Lachlan Blunt posted four tackles. Junior Jackson Roehr, junior Mateo Soriano, junior Joe Barton and sophomore Chander Thome each recorded two tackles, while senior Jason Nelson finished with one tackle and a fumble recovery.
CVHS (1-1 overall), which traveled to Moorpark Friday for a game which ended after the press deadline, will travel to La Cañada for a nonleague matchup this coming Friday, Sept. 16, at 7 p.m. The Falcons routed La Cañada, 59-20, in their last matchup during the 2017 season.
