New Rotary Club Makes Debut

First published in the July 30 print issue of the Glendale News-Press.

The Rotary Club of Mental Health and Wellness was recently charted, with its members inducted.
The event was hosted by Michael Shaar and his wife, Dr. Maribel Koury Shaar, who is also the president of the new club. The idea for the new club was born by Maribel Koury Shaar, Judy Verduzco and Blanca Bradley, three wives of members of the Glendale Sunrise Rotary Club. The idea was discussed just 59 days ago, which immediately attracted 37 members who were inducted at the event.
The district governor for 5280, Olivia Patterson Ryans, was present for the pinning and induction of its new members. Governor 2021-22, Guity Javit spoke on the issue of mental health being a big problem that needs to be addressed.
The current president for the Glendale Sunrise Rotary Club, Sharon Townsend, spoke regarding one of the first projects for the club will be a visit to the Children’s Burn Foundation and Hospital in Los Angeles, to visit the children to assist them in coping methods as it isn’t the physical injury alone that needs to heal but their mental health as a result of such an injury.
