CVHS, Glendale Athletes Earn All-CIF Honors

First published in the June 18 print issue of the Glendale News-Press.

After some outstanding postseason performances, a cadre of Glendale and Crescenta Valley high school varsity boys’ and girls’ lacrosse players were selected to the All-CIF Southern Section teams.

BOYS’ LACROSSE

The CVHS lacrosse team fell one win — and one goal — shy of a CIF-SS Division III title after being edged by Vista Murrieta in double overtime, 9-8, last month. However, four Falcons — seniors Mason Daly, Easton Caneva, Hayden Lunt and Henry Kaufman — earned All-CIF Division III honors for their terrific individual performances.
Daly led CVHS with 73 goals (averaging three per game) while adding 27 assists and 76 ground balls. Kaufman registered 66 goals, 31 assists and 67 ground balls, and Caneva posted 27 goals and 14 assists while leading the Falcons with 163 ground balls. Meanwhile, Lunt was a sturdy wall as CV’s primary goalkeeper, logging 280 saves for a .723 save percentage.

CVHS junior Brianne Ballard (white jersey) scored 37 goals en route to All-CIF honors this season.

GIRLS’ LACROSSE

CVHS junior Brianne Ballard and Glendale High senior Leona Khodabakhshi were selected to the CIF-SS Division II and Division III teams, respectively.
Ballard had a terrific campaign, scoring 37 goals and contributing 54 assists with a team-high 36 ground balls. Khodabakhshi’s season statistics were not reported to the Glendale News-Press.
