City Hall Shows Solidarity With Ukraine

City Hall this week was lit with the colors of Ukraine’s flag, in solidarity with the democratic nation as it continues to battle against a Russian invasion launched last week. The war, precipitated by Russian autocrat Vladimir Putin’s desire to retake control of previous Russian and Soviet territories, has killed thousands, turned cities into rubble and driven more than 1 million refugees into neighboring nations.

Mayor Paula Devine, whose Ukrainian grandparents immigrated here just before the Holodomor, made the request during Tuesday’s City Council meeting. “We need to unite around our values of democracy. Let’s be a force for good during this crisis,” she said.
