Falcons, Nitros Edged in CIF Playoff Games

The Crescenta Valley High School varsity boys’ soccer team tied visiting El Segundo’s Wiseburn DaVinci, 2-2, in regulation but eventually lost in penalty kicks, 4-3, in a CIF-SS Division 4 second-round match on Tuesday.
Jaeger Wyss registered one goal and one assist while Luis Gong added a goal in regulation for the Falcons. Isaac Smyth, Miles Vallejo and Dylan Sahakians each scored one penalty kick.

CVHS had defeated visiting Newbury Park, 2-1, in a first-round matchup on Friday, Feb. 11. Gong scored one goal on an assist by Lukas Elze, while Newbury Park scored an own goal in the first half to put Crescenta Valley up for good.
The Falcons finished the season as Pacific League champions with a 6-0-1 record (9-1-2 overall).

GLENDALE

The Nitros were eliminated from the CIF-SS Division 5 playoffs after falling in a first-round matchup at Santa Monica Crossroads in overtime, 2-1, on Friday, Feb. 11.
In the second half, senior captain Monte Almasi scored Glendale’s lone goal to tie the match and force overtime.
The Nitros ended the season as Pacific League runners-up after posting a 5-1-1 league mark (12-7-1 overall).
